Another day of wind, rain and generally rubbish weather in the West of Ireland.  Yes we are here again will we never learn?
The sun is forecast to shine tomorrow, let's wait and see.  Fingers crossed.

Oh dear, wrong about Mr Grumpy in FX booth.  He was there today as miserable as ever.

Wednesday, 9 May 2012

I see our local supermarket has got new staff manning the FX desk.  The miserable old sod that was there has moved on or been sacked.
I haven't had a good old moan lately, so here's one to going on with.

Santander Bank have just closed the sub office they had in the next village.  It was easy to get to, easy to park and only took a few minutes to get there and back home.
My only option now is to catch the bus [OK it's free] into Cambridge, walk half a mile to the nearest Santander branch, queue up to get served [never did that at Willingham] and then retrace my footsteps back to the bus stop, wait ages for a bus and get home approx. 2 hours later.  What a palava!
Oophs! I've been slacking.

Went back to Rutland again last Friday [4th] but the trout gods had decreed that the trout would move out of casting range?  I did manage to get a few in the end [4 netted and released, 3 lost at the net] so not so bad after all.  Visited Rutland yet again on Saturday from midday to 5pm, caught and released just 1 fish and only had 1 other pull.  Somebody in the past used to call me Jonah because the fish always disappeared when I turned up.  It seems it's happening again.

Today [9th May] I've been sorting through some tackle that belonged to a dear friend who died nearly 3 years ago.  Not a comfortable job, but his widow asked for my help. The classic find was his Barbour jacket that was pretty badly torn and worn.  The zip wouldn't undo all the way down so he used to get into it by stepping into it and pulling it up.  Priceless.

Crikey! I'm really going for it with this blog thing!!

Fished at Rutland again today and very successfully I might add.  Caught 7, released 6, lost 2 or 3 more and had a good few pulls.  The magic formula was a floating line, 18foot Fluorocarbon leader and 2 green buzzers.
The pulls didn't come to easily at first but as the morning progressed so did my catch rate. Good sized fish as well with most around or just over the 3lb mark and they pull like hell.

I had a technology moment today as well.  The revolving handle of my reel came adrift and plopped into the murky depths of Rutland.  So out with the Android phone, find the Snowbee website, click on the phone number and hey presto new bits in the post tonight hopefully.  Luckily I had a spare reel so my fishing day wasn't spoiled too much.

Great service from Snowbee as well.

Today I had my first trip of the trout season to Rutland.  Needless to say while all around were happily playing and landing some nice Rainbows, I couldn't get a pull. I didn't help that the weather was dreadful, with strong winds, persistent rain and damn cold as well.
However after several hours of humiliation, something did at last latch onto my fly, it was a fish of around 3lbs.  It's now gutted and ready for the oven or the freezer, whichever my lovely wife decides needs it most.
Happily things at Rutland did pick up and I caught and released another 2 Rainbows of around 4lbs each.
Off to have a shower and hopefully warm up a bit.

Well it's been a while since I last posted anything on here.  The reason?  I'd forgotten I even started a blog.  The new trout season is now well under way and I've managed to get in 5 trips so far.  The last trip was on the day of the GWFFA/EDFF day at Grafham where I went along to get some photos for the GWFFA website.  I declined the invitation to join in the match and instead fished off the Harbour jetties.  Surprise surprise I caught 6.  Best catch so far this season, perhaps I should quit while I'm ahead.
I've got myself re-involved with the Waterbeach Angling Club where I've taken on the job of Secretary [I must be mad]  I've also involved myself in loads of maintenance at the clubs lakes in Landbeach in an effort to keep myself a bit fitter than I was.  It seems to be working.
I'll keep all my followers posted on how I'm getting on. That's if I remember I have a blog.
